Morning, drive out of Yangon from back door to see its beautiful back-drop. On the way, stop at Htaukkyaunt War Cemetery, home to 27000 allied forces that died in the Arakan-Burmese Front during the WWII. Arrive in Bago after an hour drive. Its classical name is Hanthawaddy and lasted about 300yrs from 1365AD to 1635AD. Being the royal seat of 2nd Myanmar Empire, the place is so historical. In this golden period, King Bayinnaung conquered twice Ayutthaya (Thailand). A large part of India was also incorporated into his sovereignty.
Upon arrival, take a look around the town including a visit to the local market, Shwetharlyaung – a 55 meters long reclining Buddha Image, Kalyarni Ordination Hall, Shwemawdaw Pagoda – a spire that is even taller than that of the great Shwedagon Pagoda, the renew Grand Palace and Kyakhatwine Monastery. On the way back see the Four-seated Buddha Image (Kyaikpun) & pottery work-place.
