Situated in Mon State at an elevation of 3600 ft (1100 m), Kyaikhityo is a well-known pilgrimage site of Myanmar.
It takes about 4~5hr driving time from Yangon. The place is so cool and refreshing where many pagodas dotted over the green mountains. Here the focal point is a small pagoda (24 ft). It is built on top of the granite boulder measuring 25ft that lies on an inclined natural rock platform defying the gravity.
Locals believe that a strand of Buddha hair relic is preventing the rock from falling down the hill. And yes, it’s true!
Now, the rock itself and the pagoda are all covered with gold-leaf. Thousands of pilgrims, day and night, flooded over the spacious platform show the religious zeal of the countryman.
The Golden Rock is more than a rock!
